Promoting Equitable Access to Clean Energy (PEACE project)
The PEACE project seeks to contribute to a more green and resilient economic transformation in Malawi through strengthening an enabling environment for equitable access to clean energy. The project is in line with the goal 7 of SDGs that says by 2030 we need to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.
DONOR: European Union with a total budget of 1,333,000.00 EUR.
DURATION: 42 Months (Dec 2022 - June 2026)
IMPLEMENTING PARTNERS: OXFAM in Malawi (Grant Lead), CISONECC (Lilongwe, Salima), CEPA (Lilongwe, Blantyre).
PROJECT OBJECTIVE: To contribute to a more green and resilient economic transformation in Malawi through strengthening an enabling environment for equitable access to clean energy, the project is in line with the goal 7 of SDGs that says by 2030 we need to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.
PROJECT KEY ACTIVITIES:
- Capacity building and training of CSOs, district councils, and media to enhanced their capacities to influence the national policy and legal frameworks in the Malawi Energy Sector.
- Engagement with International Financing Institutions (IFIs) around investment priorities towards clean energy.
- Facilitate participation of marginalised groups in policy engagement processes in the energy sector.
- Public awareness on clean energy solutions via mass media channels: TV, Radio, print media, etc.
- Supporting vulnerable groups in piloting of clean energy solutions.
- Promote knowledge and experience sharing on clean energy initiatives.
KEY TARGET GROUPS:
- 45 CSOs, focusing on environment management energy, climate change, agriculture including organisations for the rights of women, youth and PWDs.12 Media houses, including Association of Environmental Journalists (AEJ).
- 12 Local community coordination structures (4 per district), in Lilongwe, Blantyre and Salima.
